COMMUNITY OUTREACH
THANKSGIVING THANKS!
Westerly Creek Elementary and its families would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the many companies who so generously donated to the PTA Food Pantry.

Their generosity provided Thanksgiving dinner for 12 families right here in WCE’s school community. Additionally, these companies together funded the WCE PTA Food Pantry with enough money to purchase 3,000 lbs of food!

The PTA is proud to have their support which enables us to extend our community support and outreach programs as we teach our CREEK Kids to be and show Compassion, Respect, Empathetic, Engaged and Kindness!

WESTERLY CREEK PTA FOOD PANTRY & KIDS WEEKEND BACKPACK FOOD PROGRAM
We understand that our school is a diverse community serving students with a variety of situations. The success of all children at WCE is important to our school. The backpack program will provide weekend meals to the WCE students and their immediate family members needing assistance.

How it Works: The student will be assigned one rolling backpack that he/she will pick up each Friday at the end of the school day in the front office. Backpacks will include enough non-perishable food for the weekend. The student will return the backpack to the WCE front office on Monday morning so that it can be packed again for the following weekend. If the backpack is lost, stolen or destroyed, the student will receive the food each week in packed grocery bags instead. A participating family should let Westerly Creek Elementary administration know if they no longer wish to participate in the food program.

To Enroll: Please sign and return this form to the front office. You will be contacted with more information.

To Donate: The pantry accepts both food and monetary donations. Food can be donated by the front lobby. We are especially in need of the following food items: cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, pasta meals, mac and cheese, tuna, beans, canned fruit and canned vegetables.

Thank you to Walmart and Einstein Bagels
WCE PTA would like to extend a thank you to the Stapleton Walmart, located in Quebec Square, for supplying rolling backpacks to our families enrolled in the Weekend Backpack Program. Walmart donated 16 backpacks and a generous gift card to get our program started!

Einstein Bagels, located in the East 29th Avenue Towncenter, is a weekly supporter of the Weekend Backpack Program, providing bagels and items to our program each week! The WCE PTA and our families thank this sponsor for this on-going support!

WESTERLY CREEK PTA COAT & WINTER ACCESSORIES CLOSET
As an additional support to our children and families at school and home, the PTA has also established a closet with winter coats, gloves, hats and some clothing items. This closet is open to any WCE child and immediate family member needing a winter coat. Please contact the front office if you would like to “shop” our closet.

SUPPORTING SMITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Our neighbors at Smith Elementary (35th & Jasmine) have tremendous needs in their community. Smith is a 98% free- and reduced-lunch school with 450 students. This means that 440 of the 450 are living at or below the poverty level. Many of the families struggle all year long, but winter is often the most difficult. Each year, the Community Outreach Committee asks for a few Thanksgiving meal staples to help individual families at Smith. Each WCE classroom collects food for one family every year and we are proud to report that WCE families donated 20 Thanksgiving meals to Smith Elementary families for Thanksgiving 2011.

Additionally, WCE is donating extra coats, clothes and other items from our Coat & Winter Accessories Closet and WCE Lost & Found to Smith Elementary.
