MARCH 2012 - PTA Board Member Elections

PTA BOARD ELECTIONS COMING | 6:00 PM | MARCH 22, 2012 | WCE LIBRARY
Help be a part of making your child(ren)'s experience at WCE the best that it can be! The PTA is currently seeking nominations and volunteers for the PTA Board and committee positions for the 2012-2013 school year. Current positions holders will be brought up as a nominee to continue in their current roles, but others are encouraged to volunteer (or nominate themselves) for any role..

If you are interested in being nominated for any of the PTA Board Member positions below, please email info@westerlycreek.com, or drop a note in the PTA Mailbox. Please be sure to include your name and the best way to reach you. PTA elections will be held on March 22nd and you must be present to vote. Only current PTA members are able to be nominated and vote. Click here if you'd like to become a PTA member (it's never too late).


THE PTA BOARD AND COMMITTEE POSITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

PRESIDENT

  • Develop school year plan for PTA
  • Responsible for oversight of all committee chairs and officers of PTA
  • Schedule, coordinate and preside PTA meetings. 5 meetings per year
  • Work with Principal and Asst Principal to develop programs to support school
  • Signatory on PTA account

VICE PRESIDENT

  • Support President in programs and activities
  • Oversee designated Committee chairs and activities as split by President and VP
  • Signatory on PTA account

SECRETARY

  • Record and post minutes
  • File and maintain all records
  • Maintain PTA By-laws

TREASURER

  • Develops budget, provides financial and annual reports
  • Maintains funds, makes disbursements and deposits funds
  • Submits books annually for audit
  • Signatory on PTA account

MEMBERSHIP

  • Gets parents involved in the school by being a part of PTA.  Hosts no less than 2 membership drives per school year.  Fills out and distributes PTA membership Cards.  Has a membership table at the back to school Lemonade, Back to School Nights, Open House, and other events as needed. Reports to the Colorado PTA the membership list twice/ year. 
  • Prepare and create Directory
    • Collect parent/student information and creates a directory with the class lists, teacher and staff contact numbers, a school calendar of events, and other important information.  Volunteers will assist with copying, binding, and distribution of the books each fall, as well as work with the local businesses to get advertisements for the directory to help pay for printing costs.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE To communicate school, PTA and community information to the parents and teacher. 

  • WEBSITE – To keep parents informed by hosting and keeping up to date the westerlycreekpta.com website. 
  • WEEKLY UPDATE – Coordinates a weekly update to be distributed to the families. This information will be distributed by paper, e-mail, on the website, a bulletin board at the school.
  • QUARTERLY PRINCIPAL NEWSLETTER – Coordinates a monthly PTA newsletter, including the Principal and Presidents articles, fundraising updates, current and past events at the school.  There is some writing/editing and layout involved.
  • PTA BULLETIN BOARD – Updates the PTA bulletin board with WCE newsletter and events
  • EDITOR – Edit all communication of WCE PTA, such newsletters, directory, auction program, etc.

STAFF SUPPORT COMMITTEE  To help coordinate teacher appreciation activities and encourage volunteerism in the classroom. 

  • ROOM PARENTS – Coordinate a room parent for each classroom, specials teachers, and Special Education teacher.
  • STAFF BREAKFASTS – Each Class is responsible for one of these coordinated by room parent
  • STAFF LUNCHES – For professional development days.
  • THANKSGIVING TEACHER GOODIE/WINE BASKETS
  • TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK 
  • END OF YEAR PTA POTLUCK (last PTA Meeting) – End of the year event to celebrate, introduce new staff, and provide parents with information for the next school year.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

  • To raise funds to make up for the opportunities that are not offered through DPS budget. Create a fundraising calendar to be submitted to the PTA Board for approval by the first meeting of the school year.  Form the following subcommittees to carry out events throughout the year.

  • AUCTION CHAIRS
  • BOXTOPS 4 EDUCATION – Coordinates the collection of box tops to earn money through
  • E-BOOK and GROCERY CERTIFICATE SALES
  • RESTAURANT NIGHTS
  • WCE SPIRIT WEAR To distribute order forms not less than 2 times per year and make sure that orders are filled and distributed to the purchasers correctly.
  • EDU SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS – To distribute order forms early May and make sure that orders are filled and distributed to the purchasers correctly.
  • BABY AND KIDS STUFF SALE – Coordinate volunteers to collect sort and display merchandise and sell baby and kids stuff and give remaining items to charity –

SCHOOL RELATIONS

  • To organize events to welcome new and perspective families to WCE. 
  • MARKETING AND BRANDING FOR WCE –
    • Update the promotional materials for WCE
  • PERSPECTIVE SCHOOL COORDINATOR
    • SCHOOL TOURS –
    • NOVEMBER OPEN HOUSE -
      • Coordinates the open house for Kindergarten and ECE
    • SCHOOL FAIR REPRESENTATIVE

COMMUNITY OUTREACH 

  • THANKSGIVING DONATION BASKETS
  • SCHOOL PANTRY

LITERACY To promote literacy in the school and community. Work closely with School Librarian.

  • SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIRS – Coordinate to raise money for books for the library and classrooms.  Work with Scholastic books to host 2 book fairs / year, October and March.  Coordinate volunteers to work at the fair.  To work with the teachers to create their book lists.  To work with the Principal to distribute the funds for classroom libraries and the media center.
  • LITERACY WEEK
  • SUMMER READING PROGRAM/FUNDRAISER

THE ARTS To help support arts education and participation in our school. Work closely with Art teacher.

  • “ORIGINAL WORKS" PROGRAM – This company turns the students’ art work into items you can “wear and share.” Coordinate with teachers for the creation of the art work. Collect orders. Distribute items. Pre-holidays.
  • CLASS AUCTION PROJECTS – with assigned Room Parent and Auction committee. Offer creative ideas and input.
  • ART SHOW – This will be held in conjunction with the literacy night.
  • INDOOR BEAUTIFICATION
  • FALL/SPRING OUTDOOR BEAUTIFICATION – Coordinate activities related to sprucing up the school grounds.
