Upcoming Events

CHIPOTLE RESTAURANT NIGHT | MON, APR 14th 4:30pm-8:30pm

Make dinner a selfless act on eating at Chipotle for a fundraiser to support WCE.  Come into the 7400 East 29th Avenue Chipotle on E 29th Avenue & Quebec on Monday, April 14th from 4:30pm to 8:30pm.  Bring the flyer sent home in the Thursday folder, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier and Westerly Creek Elementary will get 50% of the proceeds.

ORIGINAL WORKS: ORDER NOW!
This week your kids are coming home with their Original Works art and order information. We moved our ordering online this year. So visit the Online Store. Once you enter our school access code (wce), you'll be able to search for your kids by their name or their teacher.  Then you can browse merchandise with their art printed on every item. To place an order you will need the student ID number that is printed on the label attached to their art.

A percentage of every order goes back to our school!! If everyone bought just one magnet, we'd earn OVER $2,000! Might I recommend a few of my favorites.
  • A pillowcase: Your kids can enjoy their art every day! Most of our kids did a self portrait, so it's kinda funny too - sleeping on their own face!
  • Youth T-Shirt: Also a funny item. Your kids' self-portrait on a shirt they can wear! They'll love it!
  • Notecards: I ordered a set of 24 for each of my kids. These are perfect for sending thank you cards and notes to family throughout the year!
There are about 35 items to choose from though, so shop today! The deadline to order is April 9! Merchandise will come straight to the school and will be sent home with kids in time for Mother's Day!

ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK BEFORE WE RUN OUT
We have now finished and submitted our yearbook design this year. Thank you to everyone who submitted photos! If you have not already ordered a yearbook, please do so ASAP. The price is $25 per book, and there are two ways to purchase: 1) online at https://yearbookforever.com (there is a $2 service fee for online orders) or by cash or check with the attached order form.  Please make checks out to Westerly Creek PTA. We have already committed to a print run, so be sure to get your order in before those quantities run out! If we have any extras, we'll sell them in May when we distribute orders.

KISS-AND-GO STARTS APRIL 14
Starting on April 14, our Kiss-and-Go system will be in effect for morning drop-off only.  Parents of ECE children will still need to park and bring their kids to the classroom.  Otherwise, any parents who want to drop off their children can use the new Kiss-and-Go along E. 28th Avenue.  Watch today's Thursday folders and stay posted to this update as the kickoff draws near for more detailed instructions.

We need your help!  We need parent volunteers in the morning to help open car doors, keep the Kiss-and-Go lane moving smoothly, and offer a hand as kiddos get out of the cars.  Your time commitment would be from 8:40 am til 9:05 am.  Use our SlyReply to sign up for as many mornings as your schedule allows.  We need about 8 volunteers each morning.  When you arrive on-site you will receive a vest to identify you as a volunteer.  You only need to wear it while volunteering.  Just return it to the office when you leave your post.

Want to volunteer but have younger kids?  Consider getting a group of five parents together to volunteer on a rotation.  Together your crew can sign up for an entire week and rotate out one parent each day to help watch the little ones who need to tag along.  We cannot do this without everyone’s help and it’s critical to make sure our kids stay safe.

If you have questions, please email Maggie Broadrick or Kim Lewis.

AUCTION CLOSEOUT SALE
The auction may be over but some goodies remain! Did you attend and regret passing something by? There’s still a chance you could get it! If you weren’t able to attend this year or to bid online, there is time to get some really great and unique items. It’s our own “Auction Closeout Sale!”  To see what’s available, visit our online auction now!

Our paddle raiser during the live auction this year was directed at closing the remaining gap for our fundraising goal for the year. We came close but have a little way to go still. Please help us reach our goal! Whether you purchase any of the remaining auction items or not, you may still also make a direct donation toward closing the gap.

WCE wouldn’t be the awesome school it is without your support. Thank you for all you do to make our children’s educational experience great!

SPRING BOOK FAIR: APRIL 14 - 18
Volunteers are needed for Westerly Creek's Scholastic Spring Book Fair. You can be a part of setup and/or tear down (April 11 & 21) or student previews and sales (April 14-18).  As always, we could not do this without help so please sign up for a shift or two via our SlyReply

WCE VARIETY SHOW: APRIL 22 & 24
Can you dance? Sing? Act? Play an Instrument? Do you have jokes to tell?  Are you a magician? A gymnast? Were you meant to host the show? If you answered, “YES!” Come join the fun. We are looking for talented students and staff to perform and entertain our school community in our ECE-2nd Grade Primary Variety Show on April 22  and 3rd-5th Grade Intermediate Variety Show on April 24. Both events will start at 6 pm in the WCE Cafeteria.  If you’re interested, review the attached rules and guidelines, and have a parent/guardian complete and sign the permission form at the bottom. Permission forms must be returned to the library by Thursday, March 27. Auditions are April 15 - 17 during the school day.

SHOW YOUR SPIRIT ON FIELD DAY
Can you believe it will be Field Day before you know it??  Wow.  Don't even get me started.  Well, it's time to show your school spirit by ordering Spirit Wear.  Great styles in fun colors will look good on everyone throughout the school year.  And, it's practical too!  Students are encouraged to wear the shirts for field trips, class events, field day in May and Spirit Day every Friday.  Spirit Wear will be delivered to your child's classroom.  And don't forget to donate your old class shirts to Miss. Katie in the gym!  For questions about Spirit Wear, please contact Jeannene Levinson.

ART VOLUNTEERS
The Art Committee is seeking volunteers for 2014-15 school year. If you like working on arts projects with your kids, contact Ansley Young for more details!  With auction art projects, indoor beautification, and helping grow and nurture the creative side of our kids, this is really a great way to give back to our school and HAVE FUN!

MORNING DROP-OFF REMINDERS TO PARENTS
This is a reminder of the information in the Parent Handbook. Students should NOT be dropped off at school early. Our school day starts at 8:55am
  • Students are allowed at 8:30am only when accompanied with their parent or guardian for breakfast.
  • Students are allowed at 8:40am unaccompanied for breakfast only.
  • If done with breakfast before the 8:55am bell, all students must go directly to the playground to wait.
  • Students are allowed at 8:45am on the playground.
The only exceptions to these rules are for students attending planned morning meetings with staff in the building (i.e. GT classes, Math Olympiad, tutoring, ELA groups, etc.). The west entrance and the playground doors will be locked until 8:50am. Only the main entrance at 28th Ave & Akron St. will be accessible. Please plan to drop off your students there. Please follow these rules for the safety of all of our children. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
