  • WHAT IS DIRECT GIVING?
Direct Giving is one of the most important ways the PTA makes a difference at our school. The money raised during this fundraising campaign is a large part of the PTA's grant to the school each year, helping "fund the gap" between the funds received from DPS and the money the school receives from the school district and the amount of money we need to operate our budget. This money keeps paraprofessionals in the classrooms, interventionists in the school, provides the school with updated technology in all of the classrooms, and much more!

IT'S EASY:  Attend an upcoming direct giving event OR donate online here via a one-time donation or arrange for monthly payments (auto-pay).

BOOK IT to the CREEK, our summer reading fundraiser, is being introduced to your kids this week!  BOOK IT strives to keep our kids motivated to read all summer, while raising critical money for our school.

Committee members are rolling it out one classroom at a time, so all the materials you need are coming home this week ... a poster to track your reading and a sponsor form. You'll also get a coupon from our sponsor, Presidential Worldwide Transportation.

Our goal is 100% reading participation, so please check backpacks May 18-22 for BOOK IT materials

BOX TOPS & LONGMONT DAIRY CAPS | FINAL CALL
There are only 4-1/2 weeks of school left before the start of summer, so bring in all of the Box Tops and Longmont Dairy caps that have been collecting in drawers, cabinets, cubbies and bins. Please bag all Box Tops. Drop off boxes are located inside the main entrance of the school. De-clutter before summer and earn money for our school!

If you are able to donate your time or skills, it would be greatly appreciated! Please contact Christi Smith at thechristismith@gmail.com or Wendy Barclay at wwbarclay@gmail.com.

    ** SCHOOL & DISTRICT NEWS **

    WITH SYMPATHY | STEIG FAMILY
As you may know, our WCE family lost Megan Steig to brain cancer. Megan was the wife of James and mom to Parker (2nd grade) and Keaton (kindergarten). Megan will be deeply missed and we are grieved by our loss. We truly believe her infectious spirit will live on.
As a WCE Community, we want to offer our support to James, Parker & Keaton, so there are opportunities to provide meals or financial support for the family.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK | MAY 18-22
We will be celebrating teacher and staff appreciation week May 18-22. We would like to show our teachers and staff the LOVE by providing them an awesome breakfast on Wednesday May 20. If you can help out by bringing one of the items listed in this SlyReply, we would be grateful!

Someone will be in Mr. Will Kocher's office (across from nurse's office in main office) at 7:30am on Wednesday May 20 so you can drop off the items there. Thank you so much for making the teachers and staff feel appreciated for all the hard work they have done this year!!

NEW STAPLETON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL | TARGETED FOR 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR
As Stapleton continues to grow, we need to ensure we stay ahead of the growth curve for school facilities in the region. We are planning to open a new elementary school to serve the northern region of Stapleton for the 2016-17 school year. This school will begin by serving students in kindergarten through 2nd grade, and will grow in subsequent years. This new elementary school will be in addition to the three elementary schools we have opened in Stapleton in the last 5 years.

In December of 2014, we began our Call for New Quality Schools process, which is how we seek out, review and approve quality school programs for our students. We specifically invited aspiring new school creators to propose a school design to open this new school. We did not receive any applications, so we are planning on hiring a leader to begin work with the community to design and open the new elementary school in August 2016. Here are the next steps we will be taking to move forward with this school.

DPS is seeking input on hiring a new school leader, designing a school program, and finding a location for the school. If you would like to participate in any part of this process, please or have any questions, If you have questions or would like more information, please call 720-423-3054.will be celebrating t

    EVERY FRIDAY IS SPIRIT DAY!
Every Friday, starting on March 6th, all students are welcome to participate in Spirit Day Friday! Students who would like to participate need to wear their WCE spirit wear (aka the colored field day shirts or any WCE shirts they own) or a TON of the color of their grade. The class with the most spirit in grades K-2 and 3-5 (based on a percentage of total participation per class) will be announced during the CREEK Kid announcements on Friday afternoon and earn Minnie Winnie (a 16 inch stuffed wolf) for the whole week! At the end of the year the class that shows the most school spirit throughout the year (the class who got to spend the most time with Minnie Winnie) will earn a classroom pizza party!

Westerly Creek is the BEST!  Let's show some SCHOOL SPIRIT and have fun doing it.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Stromberg (2nd Grade Teacher).
