BOOK IT TO THE CREEK CELEBRATION | SEPT 26 | 10 AM-3 PM
Our summer reading celebration, BOOK IT FRIDAY, has been postponed one week to Friday, September 26, due to teacher training. Though we can hardly wait to celebrate the hard work and HUGE SUCCESS of our Westerly Creek readers, we think it will be so much more special for the kids if they are able to share it with their teachers! Two important reminders:
  1. If you still haven’t gotten your paperwork turned in to the office, please do so ASAP! This will allow us to celebrate EVERY child who read this summer!
  2. We need an army of parent volunteers to make BOOK IT FRIDAY super special for the kids. So, if you are willing and able to pitch in on Friday, September 26, for ANY period of time, we would LOVE to have you. Please email Kim Ezrine and let her know your availability from 9 am - 3:30 pm.

DIRECT GIVING PARTY (GAP FUND) | OCT 4 | 6-9 PM
Direct Giving is one of the most important ways the PTA makes a difference at our school.  The money raised during this fundraising campaign is a large part of the PTA's grant to the school each year, helping "fund the gap" between the money the school receives from the school district and the amount of money we need to operate our budget. This money keeps paraprofessionals in the classroom, interventionists in the school, provides the school with updated technology in all of the classrooms, and much more!

Each year, to support our Direct Giving campaign, a few WCE parents hold Direct Giving Parties (also referred to as "Gap Parties") to raise money for the school. At these events, parents provide the venue, food, beverages, and lots of fun. The host family and the administration ask guests to donate to our Direct Giving campaign. These parties are a critical piece of our fundraising efforts for the school each year and are a ton of fun!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  The first of our WCE Direct Giving Parties has been scheduled for Saturday, October 4 from 6-9 PM at the home of Justin and Marissa Ross (2675 Beeler Street). More details to come.

QUICK SURVEY:  PARENT ENGAGEMENT NIGHTS
We want Parent Engagement nights to be meaningful so we're asking for feedback on ways we can reach parents of school-aged children -- take our quick 3 question surveyAnd please note: our first Parent Engagement night will be on Wednesday, October 8 and will focus on Westerly Creek's systems and structures. Food and childcare will be provided, so please plan to join us!

NEW TO WCE: MILK CAPS FOR MOOOLA

Earn FREE MONEY for Westerly Creek!  Our school is now participating in Longmont Dairy's Milk Caps for Mooola program, which helps earn money for our school and students. Longmont Dairy milk caps are worth $0.05 each and are redeemable for cash. Here's how you can help:
  • Drink Longmont Dairy milk.  Eligible cap products include: Milk (regular, chocolate & strawberry), Half & Half, Whipping Cream, Orange Juice, Lemonade, Raspberry Lemonade, and Classic or Cinnamon Eggnog.
  • Save the bottle caps. Save as many as you can - from your bottles, or collect them from your family and neighbors.
  • Bring your bottle caps to school. Put them in the collection box located near the school office, next to the Box Top collection box.
Contact Rosemary Jackson with any questions.

KING SOOPERS GROCERY CARD
Our King Soopers program is the easiest way to raise money for our school. The WCE King Soopers grocery card remains active as long as you regularly load it. WCE earns money on every reload - 5% in fact, and you can reload up to $500 at a time. To get a King Soopers Grocery Card tagged to WCE just join the PTA and it's included in your membership, or purchase one for face value of $5 from the PTA. You can give them as gifts too! For more information on the King Soopers Grocery Card program visit the PTA website fundraising page or contact Rosemary Jackson.

PTA MEETING RECAP | SEPT 9
We sent a detailed update on our Tuesday night PTA meeting. We had an amazing turnout and discussed the PTA budget for the year, direct giving and PTA fundraising, and other ways the PTA benefits the school. Please read the recap and provide any feedback to our PTA President, Heather Roesink, our PTA Vice President, Liz Kegg, or our principal, Jill Corcoran. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 18. We encourage all of you that attended to return and bring 10 of your friends.

MYLUNCHMONEY = HOT LUNCHES FOR KIDS

Purchasing a school lunch is easy with an on-line account through www.mylunchmoney.com!  Once you’ve set up an account for your child you can then load money into the declining balance account at any time. Each time your child purchases a lunch, s/he just punches in their school ID at the cashier table in the cafeteria.
  • First – Fifth graders will need to memorize their ID to use their lunch account.
  • Kindergarten paras can assist little ones until they learn their ID.
Visit www.mylunchmoney.com to set up and load your account starting August 4th.  Current account holders can begin adding funds to their accounts on August 4th as well.  If you had an account at another school, you can simply update the school your child is attending within your myunchmoney account (see the FAQs at the mylunchmoney.com site for details).  Any remaining balance from last year should also roll over to this year.

RESTAURANT NIGHTS

Mark your calendars for several RESTAURANT NIGHTS scheduled for the 2014-2015 school year.  Your participation in Restaurant Nights earns money for Westerly Creek because a percentage of what you spend comes back to our school!  Restaurant nights currently scheduled are:
  • Noodles & Co. - October 1st
  • Chipotle - November 17
  • TAG - January 21st

COACH KEN'S YOUNG N'ACTIVE: Multi Sports/Games Program

Coach Ken’s Young N’Active: Multi Sports and Games program is here! WCE’s own Coach Ken is offering his popular Young N’Active after-school program again this fall! This activity is separate from My Enrichment but takes place at WCE in the gym. The current session features skill development in Flag Football, Basketball, Soccer, Dodge Ball, Baseball, Kick Ball, and much more! Classes begin immediately after school in the Gym and end at 5:10 on Thursdays.

Even though this 8-week session is underway, it’s not too late to sign up and pricing will be adjusted accordingly. Sessions began 9/11 and end on 10/30.  Cost is $140 for the full eight weeks and will be adjusted for sign-ups after the start date, so contact Coach Ken for details. You can find the sign-up sheet slightly to the left of the main gym door, or you can call or email Coach Ken to register. Checks can be made payable to Young N’Active, YNA, or Kenneth Barber and can also be left with Ms. Katie, Ms. Allison, or Coach Ken at the gym, as well as with Coach Marissa who is inside the building during school hours at K-1st grade classrooms.

PARENT HANDBOOK
The updated 2014-15 WCE Parent Handbook is available and should be read thoroughly by all parents and families of WCE students. This handbook highlights and details important information about school policies and procedures, school communications, and parent expectations. Should you have any questions about the parent handbook or to request a printed copy, please contact the main office at 720-424-3160.

FOOD PANTRY NEED DONATIONS
WCE has an incredible Community Outreach team that provides backpacks full of food to several kids that attend Westerly Creek. We need your help to stock our food pantry so we don't need to go outside the school to help fill these backpacks. In the east lobby you'll find a shopping cart. Please drop non-perishable items in there as often as you can. Favorites include meals in a can (stew, chili, etc), tuna or canned meats, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese kits, low-sugar cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, raisins, unsweetened applesauce, pretzels, granola bars, or anything you and your family would enjoy. Make a fun shopping trip of it and have your kids fill a bag! We had a few kids last year who asked for nonperishable groceries in lieu of gifts and their birthday parties and brought in WAGONS of food. Make it fun. Involve the family. Help our students! This committee still needs volunteers. If you're able to help, please contact Jo-Nell Herndon.
