WHAT IS DIRECT GIVING?
Direct Giving is one of the most important ways the PTA makes a difference at our school. The money raised during this fundraising campaign is a large part of the PTA's grant to the school each year, helping "fund the gap" between the funds received from DPS and the money the school receives from the school district and the amount of money we need to operate our budget. This money keeps paraprofessionals in the classrooms, interventionists in the school, provides the school with updated technology in all of the classrooms, and much more!

IT'S EASY:  Attend an upcoming direct giving event OR donate online here via a one-time donation or arrange for monthly payments (auto-pay).

AUCTION DETAILS | APRIL 11, 2015 | GRAND HYATT DENVER

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  This fun event ~ the pinnacle of WCE's fundraising efforts ~ will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Grand Hyatt Denver. (Many thanks to our WCE family for securing us this great venue!!)  Lots of volunteers are needed to ensure an amazing event, so please contact Cathy Kautzman if you can help.  And remember to check future updates for additional details.

CAMPAIGN:  SAFETY FIRST, SAFETY ALWAYS | ONGOING
Beginning October 27th, the school Safety Committee will be engaging in a new campaign called Safety First, Safety Always. It will tie in many safety initiatives for students and families including safety around the Kiss and Go, Halloween, Internet Safety, home safety awareness, and more! The campaign has been embraced by DPS senior leadership, the Facilities Safety Department, and local municipality services. On November 5th, at the CREEK Kid Assembly, students will be shown a safety video, produced in-house, to generate excitement about engaging in personal safety. Please join us in our efforts so we can all enjoy a safe educational environment and community.

CAMPAIGN:  REALGiving 2014 | STAPLETON | NOW - NOV 18

The 5th annual REALGiving2014 Campaign in Stapleton is underway to provide King Soopers' gift cards for families in need for Thanksgiving. Last year Stapleton area realtors, builders, lenders and friends raised over $5,000 to assist 70+ families at Westerly Creek, Bill Roberts, McAuliffe and baskets at Smith Elementary. This year the need is again identified at 70+ families at the neighborhood schools.

WHAT:  We are asking for your assistance to help purchase 70+ King Soopers gift cards with a minimum value of $70 for the identified families.

HOW:  Go to our secure REALGiving page here to donate with a credit card. Simply enter your info and scroll down for donation package details via the REALGiving page. All contributions on this site are directly allocated to the REALGiving effort and support families in need at the schools, or supporting food pantries. Thanks to the Westerly Creek PTA for powering this secure giving site!

DATES:  Your tax deductible donation is due by Tuesday, Nov 18. Gift cards will be loaded on Wednesday, Nov 19th and delivered to the schools on Thursday, Nov 20th to be distributed before the holiday break.

For more info and updates please visit the REALGiving Facebook page.

RESTAURANT NIGHTS | Chipotle | NOV 17
In addition to a night off from cooking, your participation in Restaurant Nights earns money for Westerly Creek because a percentage of what you spend comes back to our school. A total win-win for everyone!! So mark your calendars for the upcoming restaurant nights:

**  Chipotle - November 17
**  TAG - January 21

FYI: Thanks to Mici's generosity and your participation, our restaurant night raised $564 for Westerly Creek!

SAFETY COMMITTEE MTG | NOV 18 | 6 PM
The next Safety Committee meeting is Tuesday, November 18 at 6 pm. The Safety Committee, along with the WCE Administration, will soon launch a NEW incentive program! Stay tuned to the Weekly Update or contact Maggie Broadrick to learn how you can help.

PTA GENERAL MEETING | NOV 18 | 7 PM | LIBRARY
All parents, teachers and staff are welcome to join us for our 2nd PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 18 at 7:00 pm in the WCE library.  We'll give all our parents a little "PTA 101" and answer questions like:  What is the PTA? What's our mission? What are the resources available to all members? Who is on the WCE PTA Board? What are our plans for the year? What's direct giving and why does it matter? What are some areas other parents can get involved? And more!
  • Want to attend but worried about dinner? No worries! Once the meeting concludes, the PTA will provide pizza for all the adults and children in attendance.
  • Want to attend but need childcare? The PTA is happy to help! A SlyReply will be setup to coordinate childcare, so stay tuned!
  • MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The PTA General Membership Meetings will take place on September 9, November 18, January 13 and March 10. So whether you're new or old to Westerly Creek, please make plans to join us to see what the new board has in store for the new year!

ORIGINAL WORKS ORDER DEADLINE | NOV 21
Our school has once again teamed up with Original Works to offer a very special program -- your child's artwork produced on a variety of professionally made products ... many under $10. Such a great way to celebrate your child's creativity AND support our school – a percentage of the sales comes back to WCE!   Visit Original Works for additional program and product information as well as customer testimonials. The DEADLINE for online orders via their online art gallery is November 21. Families will receive their orders before the holidays.  Please contact Shannon Walker with questions.

NEW TO WCE: MILK CAPS FOR MOOOLA
Earn FREE MONEY for Westerly Creek!  Our school is now participating in Longmont Dairy's Milk Caps for Mooola program, which helps earn money for our school and students. Longmont Dairy milk caps are worth $0.05 each and are redeemable for cash. Here's how you can help:
  • Drink Longmont Dairy milk.  Eligible cap products include: Milk (regular, chocolate & strawberry), Half & Half, Whipping Cream, Orange Juice, Lemonade, Raspberry Lemonade, and Classic or Cinnamon Eggnog.
  • Save the bottle caps. Save as many as you can - from your bottles, or collect them from your family and neighbors.
  • Bring your bottle caps to school. Put them in the collection box located near the school office, next to the Box Top collection box.
Contact Rosemary Jackson with any questions.

KING SOOPERS GROCERY CARD
Our King Soopers program is the easiest way to raise money for our school. The WCE King Soopers grocery card remains active as long as you regularly load it. WCE earns money on every reload - 5% in fact, and you can reload up to $500 at a time. To get a King Soopers Grocery Card tagged to WCE just join the PTA and it's included in your membership, or purchase one for face value of $5 from the PTA. You can give them as gifts too! For more information on the King Soopers Grocery Card program visit the PTA website fundraising page or contact Rosemary Jackson.

PTA MEETING RECAP | SEPT 9
We sent a detailed update on our Tuesday night PTA meeting. We had an amazing turnout and discussed the PTA budget for the year, direct giving and PTA fundraising, and other ways the PTA benefits the school. Please read the recap and provide any feedback to our PTA President, Heather Roesink, our PTA Vice President, Liz Kegg, or our principal, Jill Corcoran. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 18. We encourage all of you that attended to return and bring 10 of your friends.

MYLUNCHMONEY = HOT LUNCHES FOR KIDS
Purchasing a school lunch is easy with an on-line account through www.mylunchmoney.com!  Once you’ve set up an account for your child you can then load money into the declining balance account at any time. Each time your child purchases a lunch, s/he just punches in their school ID at the cashier table in the cafeteria.
  • First – Fifth graders will need to memorize their ID to use their lunch account.
  • Kindergarten paras can assist little ones until they learn their ID.
Visit www.mylunchmoney.com to set up and load your account starting August 4th.  Current account holders can begin adding funds to their accounts on August 4th as well.  If you had an account at another school, you can simply update the school your child is attending within your myunchmoney account (see the FAQs at the mylunchmoney.com site for details).  Any remaining balance from last year should also roll over to this year.

WANTED: Chess Club Coach
Westerly Creek is looking for a parent to run a chess club. The club would meet once per week -- days and times are flexible. If you want to share your love of chess with bright, ambitious children, please contact Katie Yeager.

WANTED: Volunteers for Kiss-and-Go
We are looking for committee members and volunteers to help with the Kiss-and-Go program.  If interested, please contact Maggie Broadrick.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC GEOGRAPHY BEE
WCE 4th & 5th graders who wish to be serious competitors in the National Geographic Geography Bee should begin preparations now for the January competition. Visit the National Geographic Geography Bee website for multiple links with practice questions; an inexpensive app is also available for mobile devices. In January 2015, WCE students will have an opportunity to compete in the National Geographic Geography Bee. One student will be chosen as the school champion and that student will move on to the state qualifying round. One representative from Colorado will move on to the National Competition in Washington D.C. And that student could be from Westerly Creek!  Questions should be directed to Katherine Yeager.

QUICK SURVEY:  PARENT ENGAGEMENT NIGHTS
We want Parent Engagement nights to be meaningful so we're asking for feedback on ways we can reach parents of school-aged children -- take our quick 3 question survey.  And please note: our NEXT Parent Engagement night will be on Wed, Dec 3 from 5:30-6:30 pm in the library.

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE FRAMEWORK (SPF) RESULTS
As you may know, the School Performance Framework (SPF) for Westerly Creek is now available to families.  You may view our SPF 2014 rating online HERE.

MATH OLYMPIAD
Attention Mathletes! It’s time for Math Olympiad, a nationwide math contest for 4th and 5th graders.  Any student who loves mathematics is welcome to attend the practices and competitions, which will be held at school on Friday mornings starting in mid-October and running through May. If your child is interested, please email Katie Yeager to sign up. See you there!

PARENT HANDBOOK
The updated 2014-15 WCE Parent Handbook is available and should be read thoroughly by all parents and families of WCE students. This handbook highlights and details important information about school policies and procedures, school communications, and parent expectations. Should you have any questions about the parent handbook or to request a printed copy, please contact the main office at 720-424-3160.

FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS
WCE has an incredible Community Outreach team that provides backpacks full of food to several kids that attend Westerly Creek. We need your help to stock our food pantry so we don't need to go outside the school to help fill these backpacks. In the east lobby you'll find a shopping cart. Please drop non-perishable items in there as often as you can. Favorites include meals in a can (stew, chili, etc), tuna or canned meats, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese kits, low-sugar cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, raisins, unsweetened applesauce, pretzels, granola bars, or anything you and your family would enjoy. Make a fun shopping trip of it and have your kids fill a bag! We had a few kids last year who asked for nonperishable groceries in lieu of gifts and their birthday parties and brought in WAGONS of food. Make it fun. Involve the family. Help our students! This committee still needs volunteers. If you're able to help, please contact Jo-Nell Herndon.
