FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL AND "POOL TO SCHOOL"

Monday, August 25th is the first day of school and the annual "Pool to School" parade -- a WCE tradition where parents and kids meet at Aviator Pool (28th Ave. & Ulster St.) to walk, bike, or scooter to school together.  We leave the pool promptly at 8:40 am, walk the Westerly Creek bike bath to WCE, and make it into school before the first bell rings at 8:55 am.  It's a blast for kids and parents alike, so please join us for this fun and exciting kick off to the new school year!

KISS AND GO | FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

Guess what?  The KISS AND GO lane will be up and running the first week of school for morning drop off only. We are looking for ongoing committee members and volunteers to help with the Kiss-and-Go program.  If interested, please contact Maggie Broadrick.

WANT AN AFTERNOON PICK UP? We can make this dream a reality but we need additional manpower! Please contact Maggie Broadrick today to see how you can help!

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS (FOR PARENTS): AUG 27 & AUG 28
Back to school nights for parents will be held on August 27 and August 28.  Please note your child's grade level to determine the appropriate night to attend:
  • ECE & Kindergarten - August 27 | 5:00 & 6:00 pm | Cafeteria
  • First - Fifth Grade - August 28 | 5:00 & 6:00 pm | Cafeteria
On your designated back to school night, join us
in the cafeteria on the hour for a general, school-wide presentation by the principal and administrative staff.  While in the cafeteria you can also join the PTA, complete the WCE directory form, sign up to help with a future event, or buy a WCE car magnet.

Fifteen minutes after the hour
, parents may visit their student’s classroom to meet with teachers and hear about instructional goals and assessments, daily schedules, methods for communication, and other logistical information such as the school’s policies on homework, discipline, snacks, birthday celebrations, etc.

PTA MEETING | SEPT 9 | 7 PM | WCE LIBRARY
All parents, teachers and staff are welcome to join us for our first PTA meeting of the year -- Tuesday, September 9th at 7 pm in the WCE library.  We'll give all our parents a little "PTA 101" and we'll answer the questions like:  What is the PTA? What's our mission? What are the resources available to all members? Who is on the WCE PTA Board? What are our plans for the year? What's a GAP drive and why does it matter? What are some areas other parents can get involved? And more!

Want to attend but need childcare?
The PTA is happy to help! Just SIGN UP in advance. (**Note the number of children you plan to bring in the “quantity” option so we can have the adequate number of caregivers on hand.)

Can’t attend the meeting in person but want to stay informed?
Tune in from home!  REGISTER NOW to attend the meeting virtually. Then, at 7 pm on September 9, just log in and watch from home.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:  The PTA General Membership Meetings will take place on September 9, November 18, January 13 and March 10. So whether you're new or old to Westerly Creek, please make plans to join us to see what the new board has in store for the new year!

Every Friday is Spirit Day at Westerly Creek!  Students show their school pride by wearing spiritwear of their choice -- from the traditional WESTERLY CREEK WOLVES EST. 2003, to one of the new designs and styles available for the 2014-2015 school year.  Additionally, each grade has a unique class t-shirt color:
  • ECE – Blue (iris)
  • Kindergarten – Purple
  • 1st Grade – Yellow
  • 2nd Grade – Blue (sapphire)
  • 3rd Grade – Red
  • 4th Grade – Green
  • 5th Grade – Orange
The shirts can be worn at any time, but they are especially helpful for field trips, class events, Friday Spirit Days, and Field Day in May.

T-shirt sizing information.

Order your spiritwear and Class T-shirt by clicking here. Orders are accepted at any time by credit card, debit card or e-check. However,
orders
placed by September 12 will be delivered in early October to your child's classroom.  For more information about spirit wear contact Cathy Kautzman.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Just two weeks until school starts!!  A friendly reminder that you should purchase your school supplies according to the lists by grade.  If you purchased EduKits during the "last chance" order on August 3rd, they will be delivered to your home.  Please bring these to school with you on the first day of school.  Please contact Laura Reynolds with any questions.

NOTE:
School supplies that parents purchased via Last Chance EduKits or on their own can be dropped off at the Wolf Den Welcome on Aug 21. Just look for the supply box outside your classroom door.

KING SOOPERS GROCERY CARD
Our King Soopers program is the easiest way to raise money for our school.  Do you already have a WCE King Soopers grocery card?  Did you know that your WCE King Soopers card will remain active as long as you regularly reload it?  It only becomes inactive if you have a zero balance for 90 days straight.  That’s right, as long as you reload your card regularly (even through the summer) WCE continues to earn money on every reload – 5% in fact, and you can reload up to $500 at a time.

If you don’t have a King Soopers Grocery Card tagged to WCE it’s easy to get one.  Just join the PTA and it’s included in your membership, or purchase one for face value at $5 from the PTA.  So, if you already have a card but join the PTA again and get another, don’t throw your old one away! Give the second card to another family member or friend – even if they live out of state.  As long as they have one of the participating Kroger–affiliated stores near them, they can use the cards and WCE earns money from their reloads, too.  For more information on the King Soopers Grocery Card program visit the PTA website fundraising page or contact Rosemary Jackson.

Book It to the Creek Important Dates:
  • Sept 5:  Pledges due
  • Sept 19:  Book it to the Creek Celebration

LOST AND FOUND IS MOVING

We're moving the staging area for lost and found for the upcoming school year. Instead of the main East entrance, lost and found items will now accumulate at the West entrance to the school. So if you are searching for hats, jackets, gloves, scarves, water bottles and other miscellaneous items that go missing, be sure to check the West entrance.

Lost & Found Clean Out Dates:  Unclaimed items are donated to children in need at the end of each monthOctober 31, November 21, December 19, January 30, February 27, March 27, April 24, May 29 and June 5.

MYLUNCHMONEY = HOT LUNCHES FOR KIDS

Purchasing a school lunch is easy with an on-line account through www.mylunchmoney.com!  Once you’ve set up an account for your child (to do so you’ll need to know your child’s school ID, which can be found on the registration paperwork or just call the main office at 720-424-3160), you can then load money into the declining balance account at any time. Each time your child purchases a lunch, s/he just punches in their school ID at the cashier table in the cafeteria.
  • First – Fifth graders will need to memorize their ID to use their lunch account.
  • Kindergarten paras can assist little ones until they learn their ID.
Visit www.mylunchmoney.com to set up and load your account starting August 4th.  Current account holders can begin adding funds to their accounts on August 4th as well.  If you had an account at another school, you can simply update the school your child is attending within your myunchmoney account (see the FAQs at the mylunchmoney.com site for details).  Any remaining balance from last year should also roll over to this year.

RESTAURANT NIGHTS
Mark your calendars for several RESTAURANT NIGHTS scheduled for the 2014-2015 school year.  Your participation in Restaurant Nights earns money for Westerly Creek because a percentage of what you spend comes back to our school!  Restaurant nights currently scheduled are:
  • Mici's - September 16th
  • Noodles & Co. - October 1st
  • TAG - January 21st
Stay tuned for more information on each restaurant night and for additional dates and establishments.
